An audition is a required part of the admission process for all students planning to major in music and/or theatre. Those planning to minor in music or theatre are not required, but are strongly encouraged to audition for non-major participation awards.
In addition to applying to Heidelberg, students interested in music must complete all audition forms and perform for faculty. A live audition is strongly preferred, but in cases where coming to campus will cause undue difficulty, a video taped audition is possible. All recordings should be made under the guidance of a professional teacher. Students who are unable to audition on one of the scheduled dates may arrange individual auditions by contacting Patricia Page, Administrative Assistant, in the School of Music & Theatre.
Candidacy Pathway
Don’t let the audition process be a barrier for you to pursue your passion. As of this year, Heidelberg's School of Music and Theatre offers a new candidacy pathway that allows you to defer your audition to the end of your first year. That way, you can work with faculty to identify your strengths and areas that need support, and develop your skills.
Audition Guidelines
Your audition at Heidelberg will include three parts:
- Performance of music you have prepared. You may audition in multiple performance areas. See audition repertoire requirements.
- Interview with faculty
- Assessment of musical background
